RBL Basketball philosophy: “Youth basketball the way it should be.”
History
RBL Basketball was started in 1997 by Richard Poritz and Russel Black, two parents who had been involved with basketball for most of their lives and with their sons’ elementary school basketball teams at L’ecole Bilingue Elementary School. Our original name was Real Basketball League, but it wasn’t long before our participants started referring to us as “RBL Basketball” and the name stuck.
Since 1997
RBL Basketball has provided a positive, fun environment for boys and girls to develop a passion for basketball. We use grade-appropriate equipment (baskets and balls) to facilitate proper mechanics and successful outcomes. Our programs are held in safe facilities with multiple adjustable baskets and non-slip floors. Our exceptional coaches relate well to the age groups they coach, maintaining a low coach/player ratio. We do not overfill our programs, ensuring quality coaching.
RBL Basketball strongly supports school basketball. Our goal is to help participants develop the fundamental skills needed for high school teams. Each year, we organize teams for the grade 7 boys provincial championships using a unique self-selection process, leading to multiple provincial championships. Many RBL players have gone on to play college, university, and professional basketball. We encourage pursuing athletic dreams with hard work, dedication, parental support, and ability. Our low all-inclusive fees make our programs affordable, and many parents help keep fees low by contributing financially.
What We Offer
Holiday Camps – Summer/Winter/Spring
Probably the best way to learn to play and/or refine skills and RBL Basketball camps are fun! Campers receive something every day at camp starting with a designer t-shirt on the first day of camp.
In 8 – 15 hours we cover the fundamentals of basketball with others roughly the same age. Our camps take place in quality gyms with multiple baskets set at grade-appropriate heights, using appropriate size basketballs. And the results – most campers from grade 4 and up will be eligible to participate in an RBL Basketball league. There is limited enrollment in each camp.
Skill Development
To increase the chances of successful outcomes, it is recommended that during basketball season, boys and girls play basketball at least two times a week.
RBL Basketball skill development programs take place on the same evening each week in quality gyms with multiple baskets set at grade-appropriate heights, using appropriate size basketballs. RBL Basketball skill development sessions last 75 minutes and we like to get started on time.
Leagues
We learn to play the game so that we can actually play the game. In other words, we learn the skills necessary to play and here is where they are put to use. Our leagues are either 4 on 4 or 5 on 5 and they are tiered based on skill level and in the best interest of our kids. We offer competitive and recreational leagues.
